Missouri State Fair Announces Grand Champion And Reserve Grand Champion Pen of Chickens
August 7, 2012, Sedalia, MO – Codi Beth Coats, daughter of Shawn and Nichole Coats and Valerie Ford, is the exhibitor of the 2012 Grand Champion Pen of Chickens at the Missouri State Fair. She is a member of the Braymer FFA Chapter. Her prize-winning pen of Cornish Cross broilers weighed an average of 6 pounds.
The Reserve Grand Champion Pen of Chickens honor went to Andrew Littlefield, member of the Diamond Renegades 4-H Club, and son of John and Sheila Littlefield. His Cornish Cross chickens weighed an average of 5.5 pounds.
On Aug. 18, both Codi Beth Coats and Andrew Littlefield will sell their pen of chickens in two of 12 lots offered in the Youth in Agriculture Sale of Champions. Proceeds from the annual sale benefit both the winning exhibitors and the Missouri State Fair Youth in Agriculture Scholarship Program.
Because of the generous support of Youth in Agriculture sponsors, the Missouri State Fair is able to award scholarships to Missouri youth pursuing a degree in an agriculture-related field. Last year, twenty four $1,000 scholarships and one supreme $2,500 scholarship were awarded to youth across Missouri.
