Welcome back folks! The Opening Day of the 116th Missouri State Fair is just 1 day away! To celebrate the gate officially opening, we are sharing 116 things about the Missouri State Fair to countdown to the event!

  1. Missouri was once a national center for the sale and production of quality mules. The mule show at today’s Fair still draws a crowd, check it out opening weekend!
  2. Popular contests of early Fair days including cracker eating, pie eating, sausage eating, nail driving and “guess how many kernels of corn a hog can eat in a day” contests.
  3. The Wright Brothers provided daily exhibitions during the Fair in 1910.
  4. President Harry S. Truman visited the Missouri State Fair in the 1950s.
  5. President Ronald Reagan spoke in the historic Coliseum during the Fair in 1984.
  6. Daily contests for kids are held at 2 pm on the Kids StaKid's Stagege.
  7. Mizzou’s famous Tiger Stripe Ice Cream is available at Mizzou Central during the Fair.
  8. The Missouri Wine Tent near the Pepsi Grandstand offers Wine 101 classes.
  9. In 2017, 18,831 cups of milk were sold in the Missouri Farm Bureau Building.
  10. 2018 will be the second year of using the theme “Come Home.”
  11. On Pepsi Day you can receive $1 off admission with coupon on special Pepsi products.
  12. The Governor’s Ham Breakfast is a traditional gathering of Missouri elected officials, leaders in agriculture and supporters of the Missouri State Fair.Governor's Ham Breakast
  13. The Budweiser Stage hosts a variety of live music throughout the Fair.
  14. The Missouri State Fair’s Facebook page has a total of over 69,000 followers to the page!
  15. For 66 years the Missouri State Fair has hosted the Governor’s Ham Breakfast in the Director Tent on the Fairgrounds.
  16. Sisters, Leah and Lori Reed, have both been named as Missouri State Fair Queens. Lori was crowned in 1999 and Leah in 2004.
  17. Missouri 4-H members began entering exhibits into the Fair in 1918.
  18. Two churches host services on the first and second Sunday of the Fair for Fairgoers to attend at their convenience.
  19. The Family Fun Center is a place for mothers to take their children on the Fairgrounds. The building features air conditioning, baby changing stations, and a feeding area.

  24. Ted E. Sheppard, from Cabool, Missouri, serves as the Vice Chairman of the Missouri State Fair Commission.
  25. A one-third size replica of the Centennial Gate was created in 2017.
  26. The last day of the State Fair features half price gate admission for all ages 13+.
  27. Courtesy carts are available for rides on the Fairgrounds sponsored by Bristol Care.
  28.  Frito Lay will be introducing the new flavor “Fried Pickles with Ranch” at the Missouri State Fair this year.
  29. The 2019 Missouri State Fair will be held on August 8-18 next year.
