Youth Horse Show starts this Thursday followed by Society Horses
July 23, 2012, Sedalia, MO – The 4-H and FFA Horse Show starts this Thursday, and will be followed by the prestigious Society Horse Show beginning July 31. Both events are part of the 2012 Missouri State Fair competition schedule and are open to the public at no charge.
Show classes for 4-H and FFA youth will be held July 26-29, under the direction of the Fair’s equine Superintendent Jamie Daniel. Society Horse Show events will be held July 31-Aug. 4, managed by Superintendent Lenard Davenport.
“The youth show has been held prior to the Fair start date in previous years to help manage the quantity of competitions offered by the Fair,” said Missouri State Fair Director Mark Wolfe. “To help in this effort and to increase participation by entrants, this year the Society Horse Show will also be included in the prefair schedule.”
The 4-H and FFA Horse Show will start at 2 p.m. July 26 in the Coliseum, with an 8 a.m. start time July 27 in the Mathewson Exhibition Center. Saturday and Sunday shows will begin at 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. in the Coliseum and Mathewson, respectively.
The Society Horse Show will begin with Walking Horse and Fox Trot competitions at 6 p.m. July 31. Competitions will continue with start times at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. daily Aug. 1-4. All events will be held in the Mathewson.
The Society Horse Show will host two long-running ceremonies on the fairgrounds as well. The first ceremony will honor Gregory Haston of Lee’s Summit for his years of participation in the Show, particularly in the American Saddlebred Gaited contests. This ceremony will be at 6 p.m. Aug. 3. The second ceremony will recognize grand and stake championships the evening of Aug. 4.
Due to variances with competitions, start times are tentative for both the 4-H and FFA Horse Show and the Society Horse Show. Complete schedules for both are available at http://www.mostatefair.com/download/4hffahorse.pdf and www.mostatefair.com/download/societyschedule.pdf.
The 110th Missouri State Fair will be held Aug. 9-19 in Sedalia, and is themed “Celebrate Then and Wow.”
