Highlights for Monday, Aug 12 Farm Bureau/Farm Family Day

Farm families representing 114 Missouri counties and St. Louis City will come home to celebrate Farm Bureau/Farm Family Day on Monday, Aug. 12 at the Missouri State Fair! Each family represents the best of Missouri agriculture and was nominated by University of Missouri Extension and Missouri Farm Bureau for this honor. These families will be recognized at a dinner in their honor at the Fair and their names and respective counties will be on display at an exhibit west of the Historic Administration Building.

Farm Family Day is sponsored and supported by Missouri Farm Bureau, University of Missouri Extension, the Missouri Department of Agriculture, the Missouri State Fair, and the University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources.

In addition to celebrating Missouri farm families, the Fair will offer a great list of activities and discounts for Monday, Aug. 12. Free tram rides will be offered to all fairgoers, all day, sponsored by the Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council and their checkoff. In addition, fairgoers can save on admission, carnival wristbands and truck and tractor pull tickets with coupons available at all Missouri county Farm Bureau offices.

Additional highlights for Aug. 12 include:

Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League at noon and 6 p.m. in the Pepsi Grandstand; tickets available

Livestock shows and competitive exhibit contests for beef cattle, sheep, swine, 4-H Dog, and carcass shows, Rooster Crowing Contest Finals, 4-H chicken barbecue and home economics foods contests

Free grounds entertainment including Full Moon Band at 2, 6 and 9 p.m. on the Budweiser Stage, Dixie Union at 1:30, 4:30 and 7 p.m. on the Ditzfeld Stage, Hedrick’s Racing Pigs Show, sponsored by Jim’s Tire Service, Inc. with five races throughout the day

NEW! Military Flag Retreat Ceremony, sponsored by Capital Materials, Starline Brass and Retrieving Freedom, Inc., at 6 pm by the flagpole located near the Highway Patrol Office

Flat Track TT Racing at 7 p.m. in the State Fair Arena, sponsored by Husqvarna; tickets available

Highlights for Tuesday, Aug 13, Missouri Farmers Care $2 Tuesday

Gear up for big savings tomorrow on $2 Tuesday, Aug. 13, and get ready to make an impact by supporting the Missouri Farmers Care Food Drive. $2 gate admission will be offered for fairgoers who bring. a minimum donation of 2 canned goods to benefit Feeding Missouri!

In addition to $2 admission, be on the lookout for $2 carnival rides, for most rides, all day, and $2 specials at select concessions and vendors all day.

Missouri FFA will host their Third Annual Food Insecurity Service Day, with over 750 FFA members who share a heart of service to those in need. Their goal is to reduce childhood food insecurity in Missouri and pack over 100,000 child-friendly meals that will be distributed to six food banks across our state.

Stop by the Agriculture Building to learn more about food insecurity at the canned food display, sponsored by Woods Supermarket, constructed of 3,000 cans of food. All cans used in the display will be added to the Food Drive collection and head to food banks following the Fair.

Bring your canned goods to donate to a worthy cause and save big bucks on $2 Tuesday when you “Come Home” to the 2019 Missouri State Fair, Aug. 8-18, in Sedalia.
