Missouri State Fair Celebrates Missouri Farm Families and Seniors

Farm Bureau/Farm Family Day

Monday, Aug. 13, the Missouri State Fair will celebrate the Annual Farm Bureau/ Farm Family Day. Farm families were nominated by University of Missouri Extension and Missouri Farm Bureau to represent all 114 counties in Missouri plus St. Louis City. Farm Family Day is sponsored and supported by Missouri Farm Bureau, University of Missouri Extension, the Missouri Department of Agriculture, the Missouri State Fair, and the University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources.

Farm families will be recognized at a dinner in their honor at the Director’s Tent on Aug. 13. Additionally, the family names and their respective counties will be on display at an exhibit, sponsored by University of Missouri Extension, west of the Historic Administration Building.

Farm Family Day offers gate admission, carnival, and truck and tractor pull discounts for fairgoers. Coupons are available for the public at all Missouri county Farm Bureau offices. These coupons are good for $1 off adult gate admission, $5 off unlimited carnival ride wristband, and $5 off adult and $3 off youth Outlaw Truck and Tractor Pull tickets, valid Aug. 13 only.

New this year are FREE tram rides offered to ALL fairgoers on Aug. 13. These free rides are sponsored by Missouri Soybean Merchandising Council, made possible by Missouri Soybean farmers and their checkoff.

Senior Appreciation Day

The 2018 Missouri State Fair will celebrate Senior Appreciation Day, sponsored by the Sedalia Democrat, on Wednesday, Aug. 15. Adults and seniors presenting a special front page sticker on Aug. 15 from the Sedalia Democrat’s newspaper will receive $2 off gate admission on this day.

Lots of fun events for seniors are planned all day long:

Mathewson Exhibition Center

  • Activities & Booths for Seniors: 9 am – 4 pm
  • Senior Missouri Waltz and other Dance Contests: 1 – 4 pm

Lowell Mohler Assembly Hall

  • Day of Dancing including square dancing, cued round dancing, line dancing and clogging: 10 am – 3 pm

State Fair Arena, sponsored by Husqvarna

  • Antique Classic Tractor Pull: 10 am & 6 pm
  • Missouri Stock Antique Classic Tractor Pull: 1 pm

The Senior Citizens Lounge, sponsored by AT&T and Nabholz Construction, will be open from 9 am to 6 pm on Aug. 15 offering refreshments and air-conditioning. Bothwell Regional Health Center sponsors free tram rides for seniors and will be offering free blood pressure screenings for seniors in the Lounge on this day.

Concert Tickets Still Available

Tickets to all Missouri State Fair concerts and events are still on sale to the public through Ticketmaster and the Missouri State Fair Box Office. This includes the Pepsi Grandstand concert series, auto races and tractor pulls; events in the State Fair Arena, sponsored by Husqvarna; the Governor’s Ham Breakfast and $8 advanced gate admission. The Missouri State Fair Box Office is located on the fairgrounds in Sedalia. Box Office hours are noon to 6 p.m., now through Aug. 3 (M-F), expanding to 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Aug. 6-8 and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily during the Fair, Aug. 9-19.
