Missouri State Fair Internship Opportunities Available!

The Missouri State Fair is offering up to 4 paid Marketing Internships and one paid Youth in Agriculture Internship to qualified college students. We are looking for interns that are ambitious and detail-oriented, thrive under pressure and are passionate about creative communications, agriculture and the State Fair.

MARKETING INTERNSHIP JOB DESCRIPTION:
This is a summer internship opportunity with the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia.

Duties may include media relations, special event planning, public relations activities including extensive press release writing, social media, communication with multiple publics including telephone, email and direct mail correspondence, promotional material design, distribution of promotional materials, general office work and other duties as assigned.

Beyond working on planning the Missouri’s Largest Agriculture Expo and developing an exceptional
portfolio, our compensation package includes an average of 32 hours a week and 40+ hours a week during the 11-day Fair. Free housing on the fairgrounds can be included, which consists of one bedroom
and bathroom. Limited meals may be provided during the 11-day Fair.

GENERAL CRITERIA:
Full-time college student (Freshman through Senior)
Paid: Yes, minimum wage
Academic Status: Preferred 3.0 or higher, and in good academic standing
Majors: All majors are able to apply, however, preference will be given to students pursuing a major in communications, public relations, agriculture, advertising or journalism.
Interviews: Interviews will begin March 2017 and continue until all positions are filled. Qualified applicants will be asked to participate in an interview on the fairgrounds and complete a writing and design exercise, as well as submit a portfolio of work.
Internships will begin June 1, 2017 and end August 20, 2017 (at the conclusion of the State Fair).

YOUTH IN AGRICULTURE INTERNSHIP JOB DESCRIPTION:
This is 2-week internship opportunity with the Missouri State Fair Youth in Agriculture Committee in Sedalia. Candidates should have a positive attitude, a motivation to learn and be able to work well independently.

Duties will include working closely with the Fair’s Youth in Agriculture committee to facilitate the annual Sale of Champions. Duties may include meeting with each Grand & Reserve Grand Champion winner to interview and get essential information, writing press releases, contacting local media and scheduling interviews of exhibitors, assisting exhibitors with calls to hometown supporters, keeping an accurate accounting of all hometown support pledged and/or paid, assisting with Youth Dance, assisting with coordinating program for the Sale of Champions, developing Sale of Champions program, assisting in writing script for Auctioneer and Master of Ceremonies, working with Youth in Agriculture Committee, and other duties as assigned. Intern will be required to attend an early summer Youth in Agriculture Committee meeting.

portfolio, our compensation package includes $1,000 pay and lodging in MSF Youth Dormitory if needed.

Majors: All majors are able to apply, however, preference will be given to students pursuing a major in communications, public relations, agriculture, advertising or journalism. Knowledge of livestock and livestock showing experience is a plus.
Candidates should posses Microsoft Office Suite skills including Power Point, Publisher, Word and Excel.
Interviews: Interviews will begin March 2017 and continue until all positions are filled. Qualified applicants will be asked to participate in an interview on the fairgrounds and complete a writing and design exercise, as well as submit a portfolio of work.
Internship will begin August 7, 2017 and end August 20, 2017 (at the conclusion of the State Fair).
