New Appointments to the State Fair Commission

(SEDALIA, Mo.) – The Missouri State Fair Commission met Wednesday for a regular monthly meeting and welcomed two new members to the board, Steve Luecker and Ron Scheiderer, both are democrats serving four year terms ending December 29, 2011. Governor Matt Blunt made the appointments to fill expired terms of Jerry Divin and Jack Magruder.

Luecker is from the city of New Haven, in Franklin County. He brings fair industry experience to the board having served the Washington Town and Country Fair since 1991. He has assisted the Washington fair with events in livestock, finances and long range planning, and is currently working with entertainment at the fair. Luecker is a broker/sales associate for RE/MAX Today in New Haven.

Ron Scheiderer is from the city of Salisbury, in Chariton County. He has a Bachelor of Science degree and a Masters degree in Agriculture Education and a major in Ag Economics. Most of his career has been focused on agriculture education serving as an instructor in the Salisbury R-4 School District from 1972 to 2003. He currently assists his brother in the operation of a 1,200 acre row crop farm.

Also, during the March 5 meeting the board elected member Barbara Hayden of Sedalia to serve as vice chairman of the commission. Hayden is a republican and serves the board as an at large member with her term expiring December 29, 2009.

Other members of the board present for the meeting were Kent Blades of Shelbina, Ken Keesaman of Osborn, Jerry King of Butler, Jan McElwrath of Kennett, Department of Agriculture Director Katie Smith of Jefferson City and Commission Chairman Elizabeth Schlueter of Troy. Missouri State Fair Director Marion Lucas and four staff members were also present.

The State Fair Commission was established by the Missouri Legislature in 1995 with the purpose to oversee the fair. More information regarding the commission and this year’s fair is available at www.mostatefair.com.
