Tammie Nichols, Marketing & Public Relations Specialist FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 11, 2007 Fair Seeks Super Farmers(SEDALIA, Mo.) – The 2007 Super Farmer contest at the Missouri State Fair on Monday, August 13, is looking for contestants to vie for the title “Super Farmer.” In the Mathewson Exhibition Center at 12:30 p.m., teams will complete in a variety of farm tasks including bale throwing, egg gathering, hay moving, gate hanging and an obstacle course known as Saturday Night Hussle. Check-in is at 10:30 a.m. on the east side of the Mathewson Exhibition Center. Teams will consist of one male and one female and must be 21 years of age or older. There is an entry fee of $15 per team and the contest is limited to the first 20 entries. There is a mandatory rules meeting also at 10:30 a.m., according to the contest Superintendent Gaylen Potter. All participants are provided lunch sponsored by Subway and Wood & Huston Bank of Marshall, Springfield, West Plains, Cape Girardeau and Jackson. “This event is a whole lot of fun,” said Potter. “It’s a great way to show off farming skills and make a few bucks.” Participants are not only competing for at title. Prize money is given to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place of each event and 1st through 4th place over all winners for a total purse of $1,300. The Super Teen Contest is available to teens ages 15 to 18 on Sunday, August 12, at 6:30 p.m. also hosted in the Mathewson Exhibition Center. Teams consist of 2 boys and 2 girls and must sign up before 3 p.m. in the Beef Cattle Office or at the information desk in the Administration Building.
