Parade Winners

(SEDALIA, Mo.) – Floats, marching bands, antique vehicles and much more helped kick off the 2007 Missouri State Fair in the Opening Day Parade August 9.

The streets were lined with fairgoers to welcome over 100 parade entries as they made their way through the grounds on State Fair Boulevard. Entry quality was high and judges had a tough job choosing winners for each category.

First place marching band was tied between Smith Cotton High School and Raytown High School. First place float was an indoor theatre presented by the Boys and Girls Club of Sedalia and second went to Bristol Care, Inc. Floyd Hatfield won first place antique and classic car in his 1956 Ford Thunderbird and Ronnie Homan won second in his 1934 Ford Coupe.

First place farm vehicle was awarded to the Greater Kansas City Two Cylinder Club and second to the 2007 Sunrise Optimist Tractor Cruise participants. The State Fair Saddle Club won first place in the horse category and Missouri Rodeo Cowboy Association won second.

The theme category goes to the entry that best portrays the theme, “It’s Show Time!” This year’s winner is the Boys and Girls Club of Sedalia and second place goes to Immanuel United Church of Christ Preschool. The Stony Ridge Village float caught the judge’s eye winning Judge’s Choice and winning second is the Southern Stone County Fire District Color Guard.

First place in each category received $100 and a plaque, and those placing second received $50.

There are still plenty of days remaining for the Missouri State Fair with plenty to do for all interests. Plan your fair trip visit www.mostatefair.com.
