Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Barrows Announced

(SEDALIA, Mo.) – The Grand Champion Barrow at the 2007 Missouri State Fair went to Kayla Mitchell of Clinton, Mo. Mitchell’s Crossbred hog weighed 290 pounds. She is the daughter of Charley and Angela Mitchell. She is a member of the Altona 4-H Club.

Reserve Grand Champion Barrow went to Kimberlee Gieseker, daughter of Tim and Cathy Gieseker of Martinsburg, Mo. Gieseker’s Crossbred hog weighed 277 pounds. She is a member of the Merry Martins 4-H Club.

On August 18, 2007, Mitchell and Gieseker’s hogs will be two of 12 lots offered in the Youth in Agriculture Sale of Champions. Proceeds from the annual sale benefit both the winners and the Missouri State Fair Youth In Agriculture Scholarship Program. Due to the generous support of Youth in Agriculture sponsors, the Missouri State Fair is able to award scholarships to Missouri youth pursuing a degree in an agriculture-related field. Last year, twenty five $1,000 scholarships and one supreme $2,500 scholarship were awarded.
