Tammie Nichols, Marketing Director FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 13, 2008 Missouri State Fair Announces Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Meat Goats(SEDALIA, Mo.) – Troy Sloan, son of Scott and Tonya Sloan of Cameron Mo., was named the winner of the 2008 Grand Champion Meat Goat at the Missouri State Fair. His prize-winning Crossbred Meat goat weighed 97 pounds. Sloan is a member of the Cameron FFA Chapter. The Reserve Grand Champion Meat Goat went to Kayla Mitchell, daughter of Charley and Angela Mitchell of Clinton, Mo. Her Boer Meat goat weighed 98 pounds. Mitchell is a member of the Altona 4-H Club. On August 16th, 2008, Sloan and Mitchell’s goats will be two of the 12 lots offered in the 2008 Youth in Agriculture Sale of Champions. Proceeds from the annual sale benefit both the winners and the Missouri State Fair Youth in Agriculture Scholarship Program. Due to the generous support of Youth in Agriculture sponsors, the Missouri State Fair is able to award scholarships to Missouri youth pursuing a degree in an agriculture-related field. Last year, thirty $1,000 scholarships and one supreme $2,500 scholarship were awarded.
