American Truck Historical Society

(SEDALIA, Mo.) – The Missouri State Fair has long been the home for the American Truck Historical Society (ATHS) to share the history of early American trucking, and this year is no exception. Visitors to the fair can view these vintage vehicles east of the Gerken Dairy Center.

The ATHS was founded in Illinois, but relocated in the early 70’s to Walcott, Iowa, where the Moon Family revived the Society. The ATHS now has chapters throughout the United States as well as Australia and Canada.

The Midwest is home to three of those chapters, 3 Trails Chapter, Gateway Chapter and Ozark/4-State Chapter. John Lamke of the Gateway Chapter said that he enjoys the traveling and fellowship that being a member of the society allows him.

Kent Kundrent, also a member of the Gateway Chapter, said that as a group they have been able to have several fundraising events for worthy causes such as donating funds to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, and providing a new roof for a chapter member who was recovering from cancer. “We want to keep the history of trucking alive,” said Kundrent.
