Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Meat Goat

(SEDALIA, Mo.) – Tyler McVay, son of Jeff and Denise McVay and T.J and Matt Beeker of Kirksville Mo., was named the winner of the 2007 Grand Champion Meat Goat at the Missouri State Fair. His prize-winning Boer Meat goat weighed 89 pounds. McVay is a member of the Milan FFA.

The Reserve Grand Champion Meat Goat went to Adam Thompson, son of Tammy Thompson and Shawn Varner and Tim and Diane Scott of Maryville, Mo. His Boer Meat goat weighed 93 pounds. Thompson is a member of the Maryville 4-H Saddle Club.

On August 18th, 2007, McVay and Thompson’s goats will be two of the 12 lots offered in the 2007 Youth in Agriculture Sale of Champions. Proceeds from the annual sale benefit both the winners and the Missouri State Fair Youth in Agriculture Scholarship Program.

Due to the generous support of Youth in Agriculture sponsors, the Missouri State Fair is able to award scholarships to Missouri youth pursuing a degree in an agriculture-related field. Last year, twenty five $1,000 scholarships and one supreme $2,500 scholarship were awarded.
