Grace Madsen Sells Grand and Reserve Grand Champion Pen of Chickens at Sale of Champions

(SEDALIA, Mo.) – Youth in Agriculture Day was celebrated Saturday, August 18, at the 2007 Missouri State Fair, with the highlight being yet another record setting Sale of Champions auction which totaled over $137.700.

Grace Madsen of Willard sold her Champion and Reserve Pen of Chickens at the 2007 Sale of Champions. She is the daughter of Dwight and Karen Madsen.

The Grand Champion Cornish-Cross birds were purchased for $5,100 by Missouri State Fair Concessionaires and Commercial Exhibitors. Her Reserve Champion Cornish-Cross birds were purchased for $3,700 by Subway, Mark’s Brothers Vending and Good Time Charlie’s. Her hometown supporters include the following: Animal Clinic at Sarcoxie, Oasis Salon, Brian Massey, Midwest Ag, Architectural Creations, Goodwyn Co., Jimmy Michael Motors, Mid American, FoxFire Mini Storage, Moorman Show Tec Feed, Edward Jones, State Representative Steve Schoeller, Bill’s Service, Jasper County Poultry Club, Snodgrass Collision Center, MO State Poultry Association and Kohl’s Dept. Store. Grace’s chickens were donated to the Missouri State Fair Employee Dinner and the Missouri 4-H Foundation.

Proceeds from the annual sale benefit both the winners and the Missouri State Fair Scholarship Foundation. Due to the generous support of Youth in Agriculture sponsors, the Missouri State Fair is able to award scholarships to Missouri youth pursuing a degree in an agriculture-related field. Last year, the committee was able to award twenty five $1,000 scholarships and one supreme $2,500 scholarship.
