Tammie Nichols, Marketing & Public Relations Specialist FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 21, 2007 Allie Massa Sells Grand Champion Steer at Sale of Champions(SEDALIA, Mo.) – Youth in Agriculture Day was celebrated Saturday, August 18 at the 2007 Missouri State Fair, with the highlight being yet another record setting Sale of Champions auction which totaled over $137,700. Allie Massa, of Lamar, sold her Grand Champion Steer in the Sale. Allie is the daughter of Russ and Denny Massa. The 1260 pound Crossbred steer was purchased for $24,000 by Monsanto along with her hometown supporters which include the following: Amanda and Claire Silvers, Baker Trucking, Barton Co. Allie’s animal was donated to the Missouri FFA Leadership Fund. Proceeds from the annual sale benefit both the winners and the Missouri State Fair Scholarship Foundation. Due to the generous support of Youth in Agriculture sponsors, the Missouri State Fair is able to award scholarships to Missouri youth pursuing a degree in an agriculture-related field. Last year, the committee was able to award twenty five $1,000 scholarships and one supreme $2,500 scholarship. |
