Make Traditions Grow on Senior Appreciation Day, Wednesday, Aug. 16

Come see “Where Traditions Grow” at the 121st Missouri State Fair and celebrate Senior Appreciation Day, sponsored by Sedalia Democrat, Wednesday, Aug. 16. Seniors and adults will receive $2 off their gate admission with a special front page coupon available from the Sedalia Democrat newspaper.

The day will be full of many events just for seniors including senior day activities like free BINGO, line dancing lessons, vendor exhibits/booths and the Missouri Waltz Dance Contest in the Mathewson Exhibition Center. Day of Dancing is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Lowell Mohler Assembly Hall and features square dancing, cue round dancing, line dancing and clogging.

Seniors can stop by to cool off and enjoy refreshments all day in the Senior Lounge, sponsored by AT&T and Nabholz Construction. Free blood pressure screenings, sponsored by Bothwell Regional Health Center, will be available in the Senior Lounge and free vision screenings will be conducted by the Missouri Rehabilitation for the Blind. Seniors who visit the Senior Lounge this day will receive a door prize ticket for a special prize drawing to take place at 3 p.m. on Senior Day, must be present to win. Seniors age 60+ can also pick up a tram sticker to enjoy free tram rides every day of the Fair, thanks to our sponsor, Bothwell Regional Health Center.

Additional highlights for Wednesday, Aug. 16 include:

  • Old & Wow Tractor and Equipment Show, sponsored by Crown Power and Equipment, at 9 a.m., northeast of the Mathewson Exhibition Center with the Parade of Tractors and Equipment around the grounds stating at 2 p.m.
  • Livestock shows and competitive exhibit contests for Red Angus, Rabbits, Sheep, Draft Horse Sled Pull, home economics and floriculture.
  • Entertainment all across the grounds including demonstrations in the 4-H, Conservation, Fine Arts, Home Economics, MEC and Womans Buildings, Mo-Ag Theatre and State Fair Firehouse. A Limbo Contest just for kids will be at 2 p.m. on the Kids Stage and one for adults will start at 6 p.m. on the Touchstone Energy Stage.
  • The Budweiser Stage presents Eastern Heights and Twisted Fate, and the day is full of grounds entertainment on the free stages and strolling the grounds including the Dave Perryman and the Country Revue and Dawson Hollow on the Superior Sleep Stage.
  • The Military Flag Retreat Ceremony, sponsored by Capital Materials, Starline Brass, and Retrieving Freedom, will honor Melvin Bockelman of Warrensburg, at 5:30 p.m. by the flagpole located in front of the Historic Administration Building.
  • The State Fair Arena will feature the Antique Classic Tractor Pull with start times at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. in the State Fair Arena; admission is free for this event (no ticket required). The evening’s entertainment will include Cory Asbury and CAIN in the State Fair Grandstand, presented by CFM Insurance. Tickets for the concert are available for purchase, while supplies last.
