Women Agriculturalists Recognized at the 2014 Missouri State Fair
Free Gate Admission for all Women August 14

The 2014 Missouri State Fair announced today two outstanding female agriculturalists, selected in a second annual contest sponsored by Monsanto. Tammy Bartholomew of Archie received the contest title of Missouri Woman in Agriculture, and Ashlyn Richardson of Lincoln received the title of Missouri Woman in Agriculture Rising Star. Each winner will receive a $1,000 cash donation from Monsanto, for a non-profit organization of her choice.
State Fair Equine Competitions start this Thursday

The Missouri State Fair 4-H and FFA Horse Show begins this Thursday, July 24, followed by the prestigious Society Horse Show Tuesday, July 29. Both events are part of the 2014 State Fair competition schedule and are open to the public at no charge.

Fair Director Mark Wolfe announced today that the food drive will again include a Canstruction® display, which will depict the 4-H emblem and consist of nearly 5,000 cans of food.

The Missouri State Fair is calling for entries from female agriculturalists interested in vying for the title of Missouri Woman in Agriculture, the second annual contest offered by the State Fair. The title will be awarded in two age divisions, with each winner receiving a $1,000 donation from Monsanto for a non-profit agriculture-related cause of her choice. Applications must be submitted to the State Fair by 5 p.m. Monday, July 7.

Tickets to the Missouri State Fair Pepsi Grandstand concerts, State Fair Arena events and Governor’s Ham Breakfast go on sale today through Ticketmaster, followed by the opening of the Box Office at noon Wednesday, June 18, according to Missouri State Fair Director Mark Wolfe. The Box Office, also selling $6 advanced gate admission tickets, is located on the fairgrounds in Sedalia. The hours will be noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, now through Aug. 1, expanding to 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 4-6 and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily during the Fair Aug. 7-17.

A new event day, Celebrate Kids in Agriculture Saturday, Aug. 16, will top the list of exciting new promotions offered at the 2014 Missouri State Fair. Activities this day will be coordinated by the Missouri State Fair and Missouri Department of Agriculture, and sponsored by Missouri Department of Conservation. The day will acknowledge youth currently involved in Missouri’s agriculture industry, and help raise awareness of and encourage an interest in agriculture among Missouri youth. Plans this day will include free gate admission for children ages 12 years of age and younger, free old-fashioned harvest games and new contests in two competitive exhibit categories. The event day will be the culmination of the 2014 Fair’s marketing campaign, which includes a heightened emphasis on celebrating youth.

Missouri State Fair Director Mark Wolfe announced today that exhibitors interested in competing at the Missouri State Fair will be able to access online entry and reserved camping forms starting at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 1, in the online Premium Guide. More than 30,000 entries are expected for this year’s annual agriculture showcase Aug. 7-17 in Sedalia. Rules, guidelines and critical deadlines are already posted in the online resource.

The Missouri State Fair will once again host outstanding entertainment in the Pepsi Grandstand, Director of Agriculture Richard Fordyce announced today in conjunction with Fair Director Mark Wolfe. For the 112th Fair, the Pepsi Grandstand will feature eight music shows and three motorsports events. The concerts include performances by Jake Owen, Sara Evans, Joan Jett and MercyMe.

Gov. Jay Nixon today announced the first of the acts coming to Sedalia for the 2014 Missouri State Fair in August. The award-winning country music duo Florida Georgia Line will play in the Pepsi Grandstand the evening of Aug. 13. This year marks the 112th Missouri State Fair.

Missouri State Fair Director Mark Wolfe announced today that 38 youth, selected from Missouri 4-H and FFA, will be awarded scholarships by the Missouri State Fair Foundation Youth in Agriculture (YIA) committee. These students are seeking higher education in agriculture-related fields, and will receive their scholarships Friday, April 25, during the annual State FFA Convention in Columbia.

Missouri State Fair Youth in Agriculture Scholarship Deadline Feb. 1

The Feb. 1 deadline is approaching for high school seniors interested in applying for a Missouri State Fair Youth in Agriculture Scholarship. Thirty $1,000 scholarships sponsored by the Youth in Agriculture committee, seven $1,000 scholarships sponsored by the Missouri State Fair Foundation and one $2,500 supreme scholarship sponsored by Sydenstricker John Deere of Missouri/Sydenstricker Angus Genetics, are being awarded to qualified applicants pursuing higher education degrees in the field of agriculture.

Attendance trending upward for Missouri State Fair

Missouri State Fair Director Mark Wolfe announced today an attendance of 366,218 at this year’s 11 day event. The figure reflects an increase of more than three percent from last year, and an upward trend in attendance since Wolfe assumed his position in 2009. This positive direction has had a ripple effect on the Fair’s revenue generating streams, including the campground and carnival operations, helping to put the State Fair on a more solid financial footing.
