Ragtime Music - Dave Majchrzak

Date and Time

Thursday, August 14

Known fondly as Dr. Dave, Dave Majchrzak returns to the Missouri State Fair with more rhythm, energy, and stories than ever before. Having semi-retired from his career as a St. Louis-areaveterinarian, Dave is now turning his focus more toward what he loves most: performing the music that has taken him around the country and across decades of ragtime history.

With over 25 years of experience performing at ragtime and early jazz festivals nationwide, Dave is a seasoned and spirited pianist whose playing spans ragtime, stride, swing, and traditional jazz. He has had the honor of performing for dignitaries, including the Emperor of Japan during his 1994 U.S. visit, and has left his musical mark on stages large and small—from the St. Louis Riverfront to community events across Missouri.

Dave served as Artistic Director of the Scott Joplin International Ragtime Festival for six years and as Music Director for the Chippewa Valley Ragtime Festival in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, for four years. He was also a longtime President of the Friends of Scott Joplin in St. Louis, where his leadership and passion helped preserve and promote the city’s deep ragtime roots. He is recognized as a Missouri State Touring Performer, and even helped bring ragtime back to the Missouri State Fair!

Dr. Dave’s recording legacy is just as impressive, with six solo ragtime CDs and nine traditional jazz albums in his folio. His performances are as lively and heartfelt as ever—blending technical skill with a good-natured humor that keeps audiences engaged and smiling.
