You can work at the Fair! The Missouri State Fair hires hundreds of adults and young people each year to play important roles in helping Missouri residents and tourists enjoy summer fun.

Applications will be available from the Personnel Office around June 2022. Please check back then for more information.


Wednesday – Friday, noon – 6 pm; Saturday, 10 am – 1 pm
Closed July 5 (in observance of Independence Day)
Starting August 1, Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm


Who should apply?
College students pursuing a major in communications, public relations, agriculture, advertising or journalism, looking for real-life experiences. Ideal candidates are passionate about agriculture & creative communications, detailed oriented, thrive under pressure & find the opportunity in every challenge!

Submit application by December 15, 2021

Qualified applicants will be asked to participate in an interview on the Fairgrounds and complete a writing and design exercise, as well as submit a portfolio of work.

2021 Missouri State Fair Interns

Pay & Benefits

• Entry level position pays minimum wage, currently $11.15 per hour.
• Average of 40 hours a week & 40+ hours a week during the 11-day Fair.
• Internship will begin June 1, 2022 & end August 21, 2022.
• Limited meals may be provided during the 11-day Fair.
• Free housing can be included on the Fairgrounds, which consists of one bedroom & bathroom in the Historic Administration Building.

Responsibilities of Interns
• Media relations
• Special event & contest planning/execution
• Public relations activities including extensive e-newsletter & press release writing
• Social media administration
• Corresponding with a variety & types of people via telephone, email and direct mail
• Agriculture education opportunities
• Promotional materials design & distribution
• General office work & other duties as assigned

Youth in Agriculture

Pay & Benefits

• Entry level position pays $1,000
• Average 40+ hours a week during the 11-day Fair
• The internship will begin August 8, 2022 & end August 21, 2022
• Lodging in the Missouri State Fair dormitory available

Responsibilities of Intern

• Attend committee meeting held early summer 2022
• Interview Grand and Reserve Grand Champion winners and their parents
• Public relations activities including press release writing
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel programs
• Schedule interviews with local media and exhibitors
• Assist exhibitors with calls to hometown supporters
• Keep an accurate accounting of all hometown support pledge &/or paid
• Assist with youth dance & coordinating the Sale of Champions
• Develop the Sale of Champions program
• Assist in writing script for auctioneer & master of ceremonies
• General office work & other duties as assigned
