Rabbit Exhibitors Contest and Awards

Premier Exhibitor Award – Open

This award is to be presented to the exhibitor accumulating the most points in a single breed with rabbits owned and exhibited by the exhibitor in open classes.

Premier Exhibitor Award – Youth

This award is to be presented to the exhibitor accumulating the most points in a single breed with rabbits owned and exhibited by the exhibitor in youth classes.

Official A.R.B.A. Sanctioned Show

The Missouri State Fair is a member of the American Rabbit Breeders Association and this rabbit show will be governed by, and run under, the latest revised official show rules of the American Rabbit Breeders Association, Inc. All prizes will be awarded strictly in accordance with the American Standard of Perfection.

Membership Dues: Individuals $20.00 per year; Husband/Wife $30.00 per year or $75.00 for 3 years; Youth $12.00 per year or $30.00 for 3 years.

Rules and Regulations

  1. Entries close and must be received by July 13, 2026. No late entries will be accepted. All entries are due by July 13, 2026 at 5:00 p.m.
  2. Exhibitors must comply with the general rules and regulations for exhibitors in the front of this premium book. Violation of these rules may result in any or all of the following:
    1. Withholding or return of payment for the animal or exhibit, premiums and awards.
    2. Suspension from future exhibiting at the Missouri State Fair for a length of time to be determined by the Missouri State Fair Commission or the Director of the Missouri State Fair on behalf of the Commission. Suspensions can be for any length of time and may be permanent.
    3. Probationary exhibiting at the Missouri State Fair for a length of time and under such terms and conditions to be determined by the Missouri State Fair Commission or the Director of the Missouri State Fair on behalf of the Commission.
    4. Assessment of any other penalty determined by the Missouri State Fair Commission or the Director of the Missouri State Fair on behalf of the Commission.
  3. When there is only one (1) exhibit in a class, the exhibitor will receive half of the premium money for the placing awarded by the judge.
  4. The Missouri State Fair does not guarantee premium money, merchandise, prizes or special awards. Because the State Fair Commission is without constitutional or statutory authority to borrow money for its operation, it reserves the right to prorate premium money because of state budget restraints.
  5. Entry Fee: $1.50 for Open or Youth Open Show and $1.00 for 4-H/FFA Show, except meat pens. Entries and entry fees should be completed online or mailed directly to the Missouri State Fair, 2503 W. 16th St., Sedalia, MO 65301 received by July 13, at 5:00 p.m.
  6. All rabbits must be entered in the name of the bona fide owner.
  7. Each exhibitor is allowed ten out-of-class substitutions, with no limit to in-class substitutions. ALL exhibitors including those only showing in 4-H or FFA must check in at the Rabbit office.
  8. All entries not marked with a youth, 4-H or FFA will automatically be shown in the open show, no exceptions. All exhibitors are to handle and show their own rabbits or notify the Superintendent.
  9. All class changes and substitutions must be made to David Rugen, 29139 Hwy. PP, California, MO 65018, 573-680-1488 or rugdav@socket.net and RECEIVED by Sunday, August 9, 2026. Absolutely NO changes will be accepted after this date, except meat pen and single fryer ear numbers. If you email your changes you will get a reply that your changes were received. If you do not get a reply within 1 day, send the email again and call David Rugen (do not text changes).
  10. To ensure a breed will be sanctioned for the 2027 Missouri State Fair, there must have been a minimum of 10 head of that breed of rabbit exhibited at the 2026 Fair. Ten (10) head must be exhibited by open exhibitors to be sanctioned in open show at the 2027 State Fair; and 10 head must be exhibited by youth exhibitors to be sanctioned in the youth show at the 2027 State Fair.
  11. Stock will be accepted any time after 12:00 noon until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 18. All rabbits and exhibitors must be checked in with the Office by 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 18. No cooping will be allowed before 12:00 noon, Tuesday! Meat pen and Single Fryer ear numbers must be turned in at time of check-in.
  12. All stock to be in place by 10:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 18. Any stock arriving late may not be judged, nor will entry fee be refunded, unless the exhibitor has been at another fair and the Superintendent has been notified in advance.
  13. All rabbits arriving at the Fairgrounds shall enter through Gate 11 and shall so depart on removal of rabbits from Fairgrounds upon release by Superintendent. Gate 11 is located at the southeast corner of the Fairgrounds on U.S. Highway 65.
  14. Entries must include rabbit ear number, except meat pens and single fryers. All rabbits must be permanently tattooed per ARBA rules. Be sure the markings are plain enough to be easily read.
  15. No one will be allowed in the judging area except show officials and their designated helpers.
  16. Only rabbits that are entered in the show are allowed in the show room. No rabbits under 3 months of age unless in a breed pre-junior class or meat pen or single fryer classes will be allowed to enter show. All exhibitors must feed and water their stock the entire duration of the Fair and be responsible for their stock. Feed will not be supplied this year.
  17. Stock will be released at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, August 23, and must be checked out by 8:00 p.m. (If stock is released early, all stock must vacate barn within 2 hours after release time.)
  18. All rules governing the exhibition, judging and awarding of prizes will be interpreted by the Superintendent. An A.R.B.A. licensed registrar may be present to register rabbits. An A.R.B.A. licensed judge will place the awards. The sponsor reserves the right to substitute another judge in case of inability of the judge to officiate.
  19. The Missouri State Fair will not be responsible in case of fire, theft or providential destruction; however, every practical precaution will be taken to prevent mistakes in the showroom.
  20. Absolutely no smoking or alcoholic beverages in the showroom.
  21. Bedding will be shavings and supplied by State Fair; or bring your own false floor; NO STRAW IS ALLOWED.
  22. Any diseased or sick rabbit will be dismissed from showroom.
  23. All rabbit bedding must be kept clean and sanitary at all times.
  24. The greatest care will be taken of all rabbits, but the management will not be responsible for any accident, mistake, loss or damage, regardless of cause.
  25. Comment cards are not used. If an exhibitor wants comments, they must supply their own comment card to the writer.
  26. Entry numbers may be limited to each exhibitor if the numbers go over the barn’s capacity.
  27. Non-entered rabbits will not be allowed on the State Fairgrounds.

Heads Up Youth Rabbit Exhibitors – Cage Marker, Photo Contest

  1. Cage markers contest – Registration: When you check-in.
  2. Photo Contest – Youth must be an exhibitor showing rabbits at the 2026 Missouri State Fair. Photo theme for the contest: Your favorite rabbit picture. Matted pictures are preferred, frames are optional. NO GLASS PLEASE! Photo must include rabbit in the composition. Ownership of the rabbit in the photo is not required. No limit on entries. Where: MO State Fair Rabbit Barn Time: 2:00 p.m. Registration: Photos are to be turned in by 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 20.
  3. The MO New Zealand Club will donate cash awards for the photo contest and cage marker contest.

Missouri State Fair Plaque Awards

Tex Thomas Award for Open Best in Show and Youth Best in Show. Tex was chairman of ARBA Standards Committee for many years and has promoted raising quality rabbits. Tex has won Best In Show at ARBA National Conventions. Tex has been an ARBA Judge for many years and always willing to share his knowledge about rabbits.

Gene Rowbotham Award for Open Best 6 Class in Show and Youth Best 6 Class in Show. Gene has been Assistant Rabbit Superintendent at the State Fair and Vice-President of Missouri State Rabbit Producers Assn. for many years. Gene shows quality Black New Zealand rabbits.

Haley Browning Memorial Award for Open Best 4 Class in Show and Youth Best 4 Class in Show. Haley enjoyed showing her Mini Lops and Florida Whites at the State Fair and other rabbit shows.

RC Crowe Award for Open and Youth Best Display in Show. Points to count. RC has shown his Satin rabbits at the State Fair and other rabbit shows for many years. RC has won Missouri State Rabbit Producers Assn. sweepstakes many times.

Storm Martin Award for 1st place rabbit in the largest class. Storm has been Assistant Rabbit Superintendent at the state fair and shown his rabbits for many years.

Patriotic Stall & Pen Decorating Contest

Help us celebrate America 250 and the Missouri State Fair theme, “Show-Me Stars & Stripes” by participating in our Livestock Stall and Pen Decorating Contest.

When: Throughout the duration of the Missouri State Fair. Each session of rabbit exhibitors is eligible to participate.

Participation: All livestock exhibitors are encouraged to participate. There are no entry fees or separate registrations required for the decorating contest. Simply decorate your assigned stall or pen area, and judges will make their rounds during the Fair.

Guidelines

  1. Decorations must stay within the assigned stall/pen space.
  2. Decorations may not block aisles, walkways, fans, etc.
  3. Please do not damage Fair property while decorating.
  4. Decorations must not interfere with animal comfort, health, or safety.
  5. All displays must remain family-friendly and respectful.
  6. Any decorations not in compliance with these guidelines may be required to be removed at the discretion of the Superintendent.
