2026 Sale Of Champions Rules

  1. The Sale of Champions will be conducted under the management and direction of the Missouri State Fair.
  2. Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion steers, barrows, lambs, meat goats, poultry, and meat rabbits will be sold.
  3. All animals participating in the Sale of Champions will sell. This is a termination sale. All animals will be delivered for processing after the sale.
  4. All steers, barrows, lambs, and goats participating in the Sale of Champions must meet the DNA sampling requirements outlined in the 4-H and FFA General Rules and Regulations in this premium guide.
  5. The Missouri State Fair will perform urine, blood, saliva and/or tissue tests on all Sale of Champion animals and reserves the right to test any other exhibited animal to detect practices not considered to be normal or usual animal husbandry practices, including the use of anabolic steroids, diuretics, feed additives or drug residues. An exhibitor or anyone causing an animal to produce a positive analysis of drugs, unapproved medication or chemical residues, may result in any or all of the following:
    A. Withholding or return of payment for the animal or exhibit, premiums, and awards.
    B. Suspension from future exhibiting at the Missouri State Fair for a length of time to be determined by the Missouri State Fair Commission or the Director of the Missouri State Fair on behalf of the Commission. Suspensions can be for any length of time and may be permanent.
    C. Probationary exhibiting at the Missouri State Fair for a length of time and under such terms and conditions to be determined by the Missouri State Fair Commission or the Director of the Missouri State Fair on behalf of the Commission.
    D. Assessment of any other penalty determined by the Missouri State Fair Commission or the Director of the Missouri State Fair on behalf of the Commission.
  6. Penalties for any person accused of a violation of the rules and regulations governing the Sale of Champions may result in any or all of the following:
    A. Withholding or return of payment for the animal or exhibit, premiums, and awards.
    B. Suspension from future exhibiting at the Missouri State Fair for a length of time to be determined by the Missouri State Fair Commission or the Director of the Missouri State Fair on behalf of the Commission. Suspensions can be for any length of time and may be permanent.
    C. Probationary exhibiting at the Missouri State Fair for a length of time and under such terms and conditions to be determined by the Missouri State Fair Commission or the Director of the Missouri State Fair on behalf of the Commission.
    D. Assessment of any other penalty determined by the Missouri State Fair Commission or the Director of the Missouri State Fair on behalf of the Commission.
  7. The Missouri State Fair will award banners to the exhibitors and buyers of all Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion animals in the sale.
  8. If you wish to purchase a lot or make a Hometown Donation bid to a specific Champion or Reserve Champion lot you may contact the Missouri State Fair Foundation Youth In Agriculture Committee.
  9. The Missouri Department of Agriculture will broadcast the auction live at Facebook.com/MoAgriculture.
  10. The auction will be broadcast live via several radio stations.
  11. Checks should be made payable to “Youth in Agriculture Fund”. Exhibitors will be paid by the Missouri State Fair Foundation, Youth in Agriculture Fund, providing both the exhibitor and the animal participating in the Sale of Champions have met all requirements.
  12. A commission charge of twenty five percent (25%) will be levied against all livestock sold in the Sale of Champions, to be retained for use in funding Youth in Agriculture scholarships and other youth programs.

Purina Animal Nutrition will provide $1,000 in hometown support for the Sale of Champions Grand Champions and $500 to Reserve Grand Champions in the following categories that were fed with a Purina Honor Show Chow Feed product: steers, barrows, lambs and meat goats. Minimum feeding requirement is the same as the ownership rules stated in this Premium Guide.

ADM Animal Nutrition/MoorMan’s ShowTec will provide $500 in hometown support to the Sale of Champions Grand Champions and $250 to Reserve Grand Champions in the following categories that were fed with an ADM Show Feed product: steers, barrows, lambs, and meat goats. They will also provide hometown support for the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion meat rabbits and chickens if fed with an ADM show feed.

The Missouri State Fair Foundation Youth in Agriculture Committee awards college scholarships to Missouri State Fair exhibitors who are active members of 4-H or FFA, and plan to attend a college, university, or technical school. The Scholarship Program is celebrating over 30 years awarding over one million dollars since 1992!
